Seniors Programme

Reference: AP3415.

1. The RAFFU Seniors Competition will be held, by kind permission of the Commandant of DCAE, Air Commodore NW Gammon MA MSc BSc CEng FRAeS MCMI RAF, at DCAE Cosford on 12-13 April 08. Detailed rules governing the events set out below are contained in Reference A.

2. The following events will take place:

  3. Senior Foil (Male)
  4. Senior Foil (Female)
  5. Senior Epee (Male)
  6. Senior Epee (Female)
  7. Inter-Unit 6 Man Team Event
  8. Novice Foil

The Senior individual competitions are open to all fencers in their respective events.

Fencing will commence at 0900 hrs each day. Check in must be completed by 0845 hrs. Late entries may be refused or a late entry fee levied at the discretion of the Director of Combats.

This programme may be subject to change and the Director of Combats will provide actual timings on the day.

Regulations

5. The competition will be fenced in accordance with the rules of the British Fencing Association as amended. The RAFFU Executive Committee reserves the right to modify these rules, amendments to which will be displayed on a notice board at the venue.

6. Each Fencer is personally responsible for making sure that his or her clothing and equipment conform to the FIE and British Fencing rules and are in good condition. Neither British Fencing nor the organisers of the competition, nor any official or referee involved in the competition is responsible for these matters, or for any accident, loss or damage to persons or property however caused.

 7. Blades are not to be ground or filed for any reason whatsoever, although corrosion may be removed with abrasive paper.

8. Fencers are reminded of the requirement to be a member of at least one recognized UK Fencing Authority. Insurance can not be guaranteed by the RAFFU. British Fencing Association membership forms will not be available at the venue.

Entries

9. Personnel wishing to compete should fully complete the entry form at Annex A or register via the RAFFU website by visiting: www.raffencing.co.uk. Entry is also possible by contacting Dean Whitehead on 9491 30285. Entry fees of £5 per weapon are to be paid to the Director of Combats at the venue.

10. Accommodation . All fencers should be able to be accommodated at DCAE Cosford. Accommodation is limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The DoC will forward entrants details to the RAFFU HonSec who will book fencers’ accommodation. Any returns received after 28 March 2008 will not be actioned.

11. Social Event . An evening function will be organized at DCAE Cosford, which will include refreshments, at an estimated cost of £5 per person. Any personnel with special dietary requirements are to inform the DOC (Admin) when submitting their entry form

Travel Authority

12. Travel authority has been granted under JSP752 Chapter 4 Section 8 and RAF Sports Board Letter PTC/299004/5/1/1/DSB(RAF) and is to be quoted on all warrants and claims. When 2 or more fencers are traveling from the same unit, cars are to be shared whenever possible. Subsistence allowance is not to be charged to public funds or to the RAFFU.

13. The following personnel have been selected to act as officials for the Championships. They are requested to confirm their availability to the undersigned by 21 March 2008.

Preparation

14. The RAFFU Events team is requested to provide sufficient pistes and scoring equipment for the competition, in addition to RAFFU personal protective equipment for novice entrants. Individuals are requested to bring personal equipment and blades but are reminded that all equipment must conform to current regulations and may be checked at the event. The appointed armourer, the DCAE Cosford Fencing Team, and any other volunteers are requested to assist with the set-up, and clearing of equipment for the RAF Seniors Competition. The set-up will be conducted on Fri 11 April at 1600hrs, and the clear up will be completed after the competition on Sun 13 April 2008.

15. All recipients, or holders of trophies from previous years, are requested to make sure that the trophies are polished and etched correctly with the recipient’s details, and returned for presentation and muster. All apologies for non compliance are to be forwarded to the RAFFU Captain with reasons for non-return detailed.

 Publicity

 16. Command PEdOs, fencing secretaries, unit PEdOs and all Officers IC Fencing are requested to give maximum publicity to this series of competitions to ensure a good entry. In view of the importance of these events, Commanding Officers are asked to view favourably any request for leave of absence for both competitors and officials.
