MEN'S RANKINGS UPDATED
After finally receiving the final results from the Inter Service Championships, the men's rankings have now been updated to reflect these results.
As expected, those personnel who missed the RAF Championships and failed to gain any points there have made up for it by achieving good results at the Inter Services. That should mean that the "pool of death" experienced at this years Seniors shouold not reoccur next year as all fencers who should have a ranking now have one!

DATE CHANGES
Due to the unavailability of the gym or accommodation (or both) at Cosford, new dates are currently being organised for the following competitions:
One Hit Epee
Juniors
Seniors 08
Poule Unique 08 (to deconflict with Airshow)
As soon as new dates are finalised, the calendar will be updated to reflect the changes.

NEW GUESTBOOK ONLINE
After the problems with the last guestbook being abused by hackers, I have now added a new one which SHOULD prevent the reoccurrence of this issue.
Fortunately, after a bit of hard work, I was also able to transfer all the old guestbook entries into the new one, so no information has been lost.

INTER SERVICE PERFORMANCE TRAINING
The Coaching Coordinator, Graeme Hart, has sent me through details of next week's Performance Training. All members of the RAF Squad are expected to attend.
The course is also open to any other RAF fencers who are available to attend.
Full details of the course can be found here.
IMPORTANT: The match on Sunday 10 Jun coincides with the Cosford Air Show, therefore traffic around DCAE Cosford will be extremely busy and restrictions will be in place. All personnel taking part in the match should allow additional time when making their way to the gymnasium - it may be easier to travel by foot on that morning from the accommodation.

GUESTBOOK REMOVED
After disabling the Guestbook, but still receiving emails and entries in it, it has become apparent that the old script used to make it work has been compromised by hackers.
To prevent any further bogus emails being sent from the webmaster email address, I have had to remove the Guestbook from the site until I can source a suitable and secure replacement.
Rest assured though, all the information from the old entries has been saved and will be transferred as and when the new guestbook becomes available.

SPAM EMAILS - UPDATE
Initial investigations seem to point to the Guestbook as the route by which nefarious types are sending spam email using the RAF Fencing email credentials.
With this in mind, I have deactivated the Guestbook until such time as I can source a replacement which provides anti-abuse protection. If I am unable to source a suitable replacement that is easy to install (beleive it or not, this DOESN'T all come naturally to me!) then I will remove the Guestbook functionality from the site.

WARNING - DO NOT EMAIL WEBMASTER ADDRESS
It's been brought to my attention that personnel emailing the webmaster address are then being bombarded with spam email purporting to come from raffencing.co.uk@hosts.co.uk
These emails do NOT originate from RAF Fencing, and I have initiated action for our ISP to investigate. In the mean time, please do NOT email the webmaster. Further status will be given when available.

MULTIPLE UPDATES
With the Inter Services just round the corner in June, the list of thsoe who qualified along with the programme of events has now been posted online. Any personnel who have qualified but will not be able to attend are to inform the Captain or Vice Captain ASAP.
The results of the Seniors have also been posted online, along with (slightly late but better than never!) the full results from last years' Inter Services - things sometimes slip off the radar!

MEN'S RANKINGS UPDATED AFTER RAF SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The RAF Champs were interesting, with some unseeded fencers returning to the fray and causing some upsets within the poules.
As a result, there were some unexpected results, which has tended to shake up the RAF men's Rankings somewhat.
Have a look to see what effect the RAF Champs have had on YOUR ranking - and see if you need to work that little bit harder at the Inter Services to recover!

TEAM REGISTRATION OPENED
Electronic registration of availability for team events has now been re-enabled for several competitions, imcluding the Combined Services tour to Canada in November.
All personnel are requested to post their availability ASAP to ensure RAFFU can send a full team to each of the listed events.

TRAVEL AUTHORITY REQUESTED - 2007-2008 SEASON
The Calendar has now been updated to show all those competitions for the forthcoming season for which travel authority has been requested.
You will find that most of the major events on the fencing calendar are included so there is now no excuse not to get out there and compete on the civilian circuit.

UNABLE TO UPDATE WEBSITE
I have created some new updates for the site, including a downloadable version of the RAF Fencing poster; unfortunately, a technical fault somewhere on the system is preventing me from uploading any of these changes to the server.
Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

TRAVEL AUTHORITY
All RAF fencers need to be aware, travel authority for civilian competitions is granted to allow RAf fencers to represent the RAF at these events; it is therefore imperative that fencers entering competitions should state their Club as "RAF".
It has been noted that personnel have been found to be claiming travel expenses but entering under the name of civilian clubs; in the future as purse-strings grow ever tighter, this may result in your claim being refused.
You have been warned... the Sports Board (and I!!) are watching!

COMMITTEE DETAILS UPDATED - WHERE KNOWN
There have been quite a few moves of personnel over the last few months.
I have updated, where known, the contact details for committee members. All those for whom I have not recorded details have moved and I don't have new detals yet - they will be updated as soon as possible.

COMMANDS PHOTOGRAPHS POSTED
The first set of photographs from the Command Championships have now been posted. Many thanks to Sgt Dave Long for those.
Another set of photos will be coming shortly, along with the match report - time permitting. Unfortunately the new job is slightly more demanding on my free time than previously expected.

SENIORS PAPERWORK ONLINE
The programme for the Senior RAF Championships has been posted online. Electronic registration is now open for this event.

MEN'S RANKINGS UPDATED
The Men's RAF Rankings have now been updated to take into account the results from the Command Championships held on 10/11 Feb 07.
Not many changes at the top, but with fencers back on the scene who missed out on ranking points last year, the big shake up will probably occur at the Seniors in May.

MATCH REPORTS ONLINE
FINALLY found some time and have managed to complete the Match Reports for both the One Hit Epee and the Juniors - and just in time for the Commands coming up on 10 Feb! Phew!!!

URGENT! EPEEISTS REQUIRED
I received on Sunday an invitation to send a team of epeeists out to the KMSV International Tournament in Holland (it pays to keep in touch with your contacts!).
Unfortunately, the paperwork requests details of team members to be provided by 10 Feb 07 .
I am just about to start a week of nightshifts, and will therefore effectively be unable to chase people. All the administrative aspects can be discussed at the Commands on 10 Feb - the first priority is to provide the Dutch Military with names - this week if possible. Therefore anyone wishing to compete is to contact me ASAP. Once I have enough fencers to compete, I will send the names off.

HAPPY (BELATED) NEW YEAR!
I know it's now almost the end of January, unfortunately the new job has proved to be slightly more demanding than was first thought.
This has unfortunately meant I have been unable to devote ANY time to fencing matters beyond a quick visit to tidy things up here and there.
This situation is unlikely to improve for at least the next month, but I will endeavour to catch up with all the missing items: the One Hit and Juniors match reports WILL make their way onto paper... soon... I hope!
Remember, the Command Championships are just round the corner on 10/11 Feb. Let's make the first event of the year a successful one.
